Proving The Sabbath Day From The New Testament
The basic command to Keep the Sabbath Day holy is found in the Ten Commandments and yes that is in the Old Testament in Exodus 20:3-17 and Deuteronomy 5:7-21. But we will soon find that people in the New Testament also point us back to the Old Testament proving that it is still valid for us today. Such is the case with the Ten Commandments. The 4th of these 10 which most are breaking is the one which says to do it on the 7th day located in Exodus 20:8-11 & Deuteronomy 5:12-15. Let’s start with the words of Yeshua to find out if he thinks we should be keeping The Ten Commandments. In Matthew 19:16-20 a rich young ruler asked Yeshua what he must do to inherit eternal life and he replied that he should keep “the commandments”. Then Yeshua began to list several of the Ten Commandments after which the young man claims to have kept them “ALL”. So here we find that Yeshua points him back to the Ten Commandments or possibly all of the commandments in the Old Testament in order to find eternal life. This man, like most Israelis back then, knew what the commandments were because they were required to wear blue threads or fringes (i.e.-tzitziyot) on the border of their garments according to the command in Numbers 15:38-41 as an aid to remind them to obey the commandments. Evidently Yahweh did not trust the Ten Commandments to the memory of Moses so he wrote them on durable tablets of stone with His very own finger so no one would ever forget them or be able to say that Moses got them all mixed up before he wrote them down. Parts of the Law fell into many categories like Statutes, Ordinances and Commandments, but the Ten Commandments were the only ones chiseled into stone tablets by the finger of Yahweh. We also find that Yahshua told us to keep and teach the Laws and Commandments of Yahweh at least until heaven and Earth pass away. Anyone who fails to do this will be demoted when they get into the Kingdom of Heaven as revealed in these scriptures:
“Matthew 5:17-19 – Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
Then we find in the book of Revelation written by John how Yeshua prophesied that the Dragon (Satan) persecutes those who keep the Commandments of God and the Testimony of Yeshua. As it turns out, these same people get to have the RIGHT to enter and live in the New Jerusalem city (Revelations 21:2) which he has built for their pleasure. Though all commandments are covered by the word “commandments”, we know it surely includes the Ten Commandments that God wrote with His very own finger in the two tablets of stone? See the two scriptures listed below for reference:
“Revelation 12:17 – And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, andhave the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
“Revelation 22:14 – Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
